FOR OUR YOUNGER PATIENTS
We accept patients as young as 5 years of age. Please remember that first visits to the dentist can be quite scary for our younger patients and that first big step in making it as easy as possible starts with you, the parent. We recommend parents start weeks prior to the visit with fun pictures to color such as the one we have provided below along with reading books like "The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist" by Jan and Stan Berenstain.
Other ways to ease fear for little ones is by talking about the environment and the "special" tools dentist get to use in fun details that they would understand. This prepares them while lessening the anxiety. Some phases we recommend to describe their visit to them would be:
* The cool camera that takes black and white pictures of the inside of their mouth
* The fun reclining chair that allows them to lay back
* The brights spotlight that will shine on them like movies stars
* The fun masks and gloves the doctor gets to wear like
Additional suggestions to help younger patients breeze through their visits
* Bring Ipods and headphones to help drown out the sounds and to calm them
* Playing pretend where you are the dentist and then they can be the dentist
* Watching fun videos with your child's favorite character visiting the dentist such as "Blues Clues Dentist Checkup"
* Bring favorite blanket, toy, or doll that is familiar to them and that will help calm them
Please click on any of the coloring pages below to print for your little one. We would love to share them with others if they would like to bring the coloring page(s) with them to their appointment.
